Pinus taeda  (Loblolly Pine) 

Description: a large evergreen tree, 90-110 ft. tall in southern states, crown (above ground part's of the tree) is open and broad

Leaves:  needles 6-9 in. long, needles in 3's, stiff, yellow-green to dark green

Cones: red-brown with sharp triangular prickles 

Bark: scaly, nearly black (young) or red-brown (mature)
